Moving Ponds
We at Garden Ponds have been helping people move their water container gardens for 28 years. In the last few years, we have been helping them more than ever due to the housing shortage.
Our customers that are renters have been dealing with having to move more frequently than ever before. Their landlords are selling, as the property values have gone up. Many homeowners are opting to turn their properties into short term rentals, lessening the availability of long-term rentals.
How to move a water garden
If you need to move your water garden to a new location, here are some instructions to help you along. Moving a water garden can be an easy process. First you remove almost a gallon of water from the water container and put your fish and snails in this temporary zip lock bag. If this will be more than a day process, you could set the plastic bag with the lid open in a firm bowl or container. Remove the plants and put them in white kitchen bags out of the sun. Hose out the sediment in the water container pot and move it to the new location.
Fill the pot with county water and add the plants back into the container. Wait 24 hours for most of the chlorine to dissipate, then add back the old gallon of pond water with the fish and snails. The old pond water will seed the new water and speed up the balancing of your new eco-system.
It is really important to be aware of the sun requirements of you plants in your water garden. If it was happy in the old location, it would be great to put it in a similar light situation in its new home. We are happy to help you determine how much light each plant requires, just give us a call.
At Garden Pond we have a good selection of small, light statues and plastic water gardens that are flexible and easy to move. Plastic containers are much less expensive than ceramic pots and come in round, oval and octagon shapes. These plastic containers look nice and are well made to hold their shape without having to dig a hole to put them in.
A small statue made from cast-concrete is a good option if you are not in a permanent location, as they are lighter and easier to move. A statue or deity can make a big impact on setting the tone of an area.
When you are in a non-permanent living situation, you can still set up an area to enjoy that is your personal sanctuary. It can be a small sitting area with a water container garden where you begin your day in appreciation. Pond gazing is a very therapeutic pastime, that can help alleviate the stressors of our busy lives.
